I will get to hold my office hours in a space I share with two other professors. When I first walked in there was one folding table, one chair, and four massive bookcases. First, I asked the department if we could maybe get one more chair please. Second, I e-mailed my office-mates asking if they minded me trying to fix the room up a little.
This office space is in a very old science building and it has an extra lab-type room that I have joked once held cadavers. It also has other charming traits like a broken window and a hazardous sign indicating that the room was checked in 2004 and only had one health risk.
Yesterday I scrubbed the room down and today I added a few supplies. The room still isn't going to win an interior design award anytime soon, but at least it's looking a little more loved.
And I figured if there is a roll or two of washi tape in there it could help make any space feel a little more like home.
