This card was inspired by one of the tags hanging on the branch for Friday's make-n-take centerpiece. And by "inspired" I mean pretty much a blatant copy....but I added gray...because gray and yellow are pretty much the best thing ever.

All day long your comments would pop up in my e-mail...each word of support and every good idea has helped me get through the day...I cannot thank you enough for all of your care and concern.
When I walked into school today I noticed they had hung up the graduation banners everywhere...a reminder that maybe I still should be celebrating.
On to Plan B...whatever the heck it is.April 27, 2010 | Permalink | Comments (6)
1. This will be one of my most depressing blog posts (God willing).
2. After checking on-line for my grad school admission status for the 100th time in the last few weeks I saw this notification...
3. "We regret to inform you that you have been denied admission to Cal State Fullerton." it goes onto say, "The department no longer has space available. Please check with the department for future availability."
4. Before I go on, I just want to say this really is not a "Woe is me, please remind me what a terrific person I am" post.
5. Rather this is a "I am heart broken and I now have no clue what to do with my life" post...it's a cathartic venting exercise where I will be too blunt about how much this sucks.
6. I had goals...get a Master's degree in Sociology and teach at the Community College level...I can't begin to wrap my head around the fact that it's not going to happen now.
7. I have to admit this totally overshadows graduation...since I'm only walking in the small Women's Studies ceremony I'm worried they'll want to announce what we'll be doing after graduation...I don't think, "I have no freaking clue" is going to cut it.
8. I have to go to school tomorrow...I have to write papers still...I feel like there is no point.
9. I am ashamed of myself. I know I probably shouldn't be, but I am.
10. Okay that's enough negativity. I am lucky to have an amazing support system...you would of thought I told Sean he didn't get into grad school for how upset he was. My mom seamlessly combined mothering and therapy. And Mac was my favorite, he was in total problem solving mode. He made sure that I called to double check, asked if there was anything Grandma could do to help me get in and then reassured me that I have my "card making business"
I know this is totally one of those it happened for a reason, something good will come from it events...it's just to take awhile until I feel that way.

I'm 1 and 3/4 of the way through my 3 big papers for the semester so I'll be sitting at my desk trying to think of articulate things to say this week...
And during my (too many) breaks I'm going to make some tags to hang from that branch in the bucket (a little decoration for my make-n-take table)... then it's back to Sociological writing and more writing.
But I'd rather have lots of time to craft up some Etsy shop ideas.

A couple of years ago I shared the various environmentally friendly things we like to do around the Griffin house and I'm proud to say that we are still consistently doing all of the same things.
One of the new things we've been able to start employing is reusable snack bags. My sister got us started on them when she made the cutest pirate themed ones for our nephew's birthday a couple months ago...only the kids were supposed to get party favors, but somehow Uncle Seany and Auntie Nora were lucky enough to come home with our own too.
This might be a good time to mention that my sister pretty much taught herself how to sew the week of the party. She and my mom are disgustingly talented like that. You'd be amazed if I listed all the things they have quickly mastered between the two of them. In the time I'll take to worry and self-doubt they'll just have it done.
So my new seamstress sister (remember with three kids under age three) decided to open an Etsy shop. She has filled it with all kinds of items she's been using with her own children, including the softest little blankets...these are the kind of fabrics that you can't take your hands off of because they are almost mesmerizingly soft.
A side note: she named the shop Noonan's Notions since Noonan is her middle name...the story seems to go that Margaret Noonan was named because her older sister Nora Dunnigan suggested we name the new baby Peggy Noonan (my Grandma's name) and it worked. Peg is not a fan of "Peggy", so for several years she told everyone her name was Noonan.
So to bring it all together, Peg/Noonan has made reusable snack bags with Earth Day in mind...
And she has given me one to share with you. Please leave a comment if you would like it to sent to your house...maybe you can share something environmentally friendly you've incorporated into your life...or something you're interested in learning more about.
Or you could tell Peg what an awesome older sister she has...I'm sure she would LOVE to hear about it. :)
A random drawing will be on Friday evening...

1. I was reminded this weekend how organizing makes me very happy
2. I was also reminded that The Container Store is my version of heaven (especially when I have a 20% off coupon from Real Simple)
3. We went there on Friday night so I could get some containers to keep my purses from getting dusty...I got this and a few of these...
4. And then I got one of these to hold my hairdryer and straightener...not having them on the counter (but still right next to the outlet) is the best thing ever...
5. I also bought myself a bento box with mini boxes that fit inside since whatever I pack gets really knocked around in my backpack as I make the trek into school
6. That's it for my purchases, but I organized other things around the house...my pie safe has all possible snacks neatly stacked...
7. And this where you probably stop reading the blog since I'm so annoying...I re-purposed one of the pantry baskets we have and made it a s'mores basket with all the supplies together and ready to go...
8. Are you still reading? Or did you swear me off forever?
9. I may or may not have just gone downstairs to carefully roasted a marshmallow on a fork over our gas stove and ate a s'more in about three bites.
10. But I totally did.

Do I have my Juvenile Delinquency class writing assignment done since it is due tomorrow?
Um, no.
But please don't worry because I did get this "assignment" done...
And trust me that it's a lot more fun than having to apply Strain Theory to a book we read.
Off to be responsible now...

I have been following this blog for a couple of months and love that she does a "Bits of my Weekend" post with various photos to illustrate what she did over the weekend.
I have a bit...
Friday afternoon Mac and I went to get an after school snack at Cherry on Top (Isn't serve-your-own frozen yogurt just the best thing ever?) and sit out in the Plaza while we ate it.
Then we wandered through a favorite antique store (even though it seems to get more and more expensive) and I came home with the little green vase in the photo. I did not come home with any globes even though I really wanted to...every one we saw was $20-30 dollars. I really need to find some good, cheap places to go hunting.

I decided I should do a "Starred" post every week since I'm always saving favorite photos on Flickr and starring so many ideas in my Google Reader.
From now on it'll be my goal to have a post up every Saturday morning...especially since it's usually pretty boring around here on weekends.
As usual I'll share a favorite layout or two...a little general craftiness...some favorite decor ideas and at least one recipe.
So here are some recent favorites...

In a few weeks I'm going to be sharing another make-n-take at this year's amazing Reflections event (I was lucky enough to do one last year too)
I made a set of three greeting cards that are filled with patterns, punches and stamping. I was excited to get to work with some of the super cute new Girl's Paperie and my always favorite Catslife Press stamps.
The amount of detail and generosity that goes into this event is like nothing I've ever seen and the hotel is truly a vacation spot.
If you can't attend the whole event you can still join in on the Isle Carnival on Friday night...here are the details...
Isle Carnival is now open to the public! This is your special opportunity to join us for Reflections Isle Carnival for only $25.00! This means you will be able to get a little taste of all the fun taking place at Reflections 2010! For registration information send us an e-mail at: [email protected] I have another to-do list with lot of check boxes to get this little card kit together for everyone (with lots of help from Sean)...really looking forward to a fun night of creating!

I won't bore you with everything I got done today, but it seems to make a major difference when I write things down...ever since I saw this post last summer (which inspired me to get my binder organizer) I make my to do lists with little check boxes...something so silly but man I love filling each box when the task is done...so much better than a regular old "x" or crossing it out.
Another thing I got done today was this layout...
And tonight Sean and I are working on something I will share a little more about tomorrow...

This card was inspired by one of the layouts I made recently...I used fabric paper for the ruffle...it has adhesive on the back so it was supper easy to fold into shape...and you can never have too many thank you cards ready to send out at a moment's notice.

1. I have made a life changing decision...I will write my Ten on Tuesday post on Monday night so it's on my blog on Tuesday instead of writing it Tuesday night.
2. I got all my flashcards written today...now the trick is actually studying them.
3. The studying is for the big semester exam in my on-line Gerontology class...the test is on-line from 2-3pm on Saturday...I'm thinking it's going to be very weird to take a test on a Saturday afternoon.
4. I talked to my dad today about what to buy my sister for her birthday...I had thought of some Crayola Sidewalk Chalk Tools and he confirmed that'd she would like them. Somehow even five years later I'm not used to having a sister to buy toys for.
5. It's my sister-in-law's birthday this month too. Since we already ordered something on-line and had it shipped directly I sent her a card earlier today (didn't get a picture of it though). I made it over six inches and didn't have an envelope to fit it so I "made" one based on this idea...
6. Since I have 7,548 feet of this stuff from the hardware store I should be able to make envelopes for the rest of my life and then some.
7. I made myself a bento snack for when I'm at school tomorrow...and I'm unreasonably excited about that.
8. I kind of don't want to go to school tomorrow...spring break really reminded me of how nice it is to not go to school.
9. The other thing I made today was this card since I got new green mist (remember that I'm a mist addict) I also used these that I've had for awhile...
10. I'm currently trying to hide this from Sean since it'll be for him at some point and he's sitting in here on the couch with his laptop.

How's that for a cryptic title?
Tonight is the official end of all spring break-ing in our house which means that lunches are made, school bags are packed, and Mr. Griffin shaved his vacation beard. (not shaving when he's off from school is a relatively new tradition started last summer)
Even though it's a typical Sunday night scramble around here trying to get stuff done, I'm really pleased with the amount of productivity and relaxing we accomplished last week. Whether it was cleaning out the outdoor toy shelves in the garage or sitting on the beach flipping through a magazine every minute of the last week was really pretty wonderful. It's going to be awfully lonely around here this week...just me and a pile of flashcards to get ready for a big test I have.
I think I'll need a reward system...studying for awhile and then get to make a layout (especially since I have a kit arriving tomorrow)...I made three this weekend which means I have a lot of studying to catch up on already...

I have been hanging on to this card for a few weeks...I made it to send to Sean at some point and it'll be off in the mail to his school soon to remind him how much I love him (and love how he thinks it's a good idea to vacuum all the baseboards during his spring break).
I got the idea for the punched hearts from this gift that Lisa wrapped for Valentine's Day. I thought it was so cute that I had to e-mail her to find out what punch it was...it's this...love when something I've had forever gets reinvented.

My usual Wednesday Well Wishes post will happen tomorrow.
Sorry today we were too busy having fun...
I promise I'll get it done before Sean and I leave for a couple hours on the beach tomorrow.
It's a tough life. :)

1. I am sitting in bed on my netbook and have The Best Thing I Ever Ate on in the background...it's about bacon...I now really want to go here
2. I also want to go here because they have this...The Office Burger (Dry Aged Beef) caramelized onion, applewood bacon compote, gruyere, matag blue cheese and arugula
3. If I were on my desktop computer I'd still be getting used to a whole new world. Over the weekend I started making the official switch to Google Chrome from AOL...like the old AOL program that I would use 95% of the time still for e-mail and internet. You remember how you'd go to Target and pick up the CD that had like AOL 7.0 or something? Yeah I've been using that for the last hundred years so switching is really the end of an era...
4. I am also trying to use Gmail too...but I'm keeping my [email protected] address since it's the only one I really have ever used since 1992...otherwise known as way back when e-mail was just starting
5. Oh wait a Bacon Chocolate Crunch Bar dessert...now I want to go here too
6. I bought a cap and gown today
7. I get to wear them in less than two months
8. Both my classes somehow were canceled for Thursday which means a total bonus round spring break...woohoo
9. Shhhh don't tell Mac but we are going here tomorrow for a little spring break fun. I looked over the menu and it has two of his very favorite things...garlic fries and hot fudge (not together of course) so hopefully it'll be a hit
10. Now I have to decide if I will catch up on blogs or read The Cocaine Kids for my Juvenile Delinquency class...but I think blogs since I'm on spring break again, right? :)

I've been meaning to share my mantle...especially since it sat empty for over a month earlier in the year...
It includes a simple spring wreath that I had been wanting to make, a little plant I've managed to keep alive, and an old muffin tin I've had for awhile that I decided to fill with various papers...
Hopefully I'll have an Easter centerpiece to share tomorrow...just in time. (even though I haven't started it yet)
