to spend a Saturday night is at the Pacific Symphony.
I used to go every once in awhile years ago before I had Mac and loved it...it was more a part of my life then. I was always singing in a choir at school and often surrounded by classical music.
I've thought of it from time to time these past few years but never bought tickets...didn't plan enough in advance...Mac was a little too young and scared of loud noises...Sean doesn't really listen to classical music...and all kind of other reasons.
Sometime this past August we got a flyer in the mail announcing the final concert of the summer season and I just decided to just do it. I called and bought tickets and have had them hanging on our refrigerator waiting until last night.
We packed a oh-so-good picnic of roast-beef, turkey, and cucumber tea sandwiches, got some cheese and crackers, a bottle of sparkling apple cider and picked out several little desserts at the bakery...thankfully there was a long walk up and down a hill to the amphitheater to try and work some of that off. :)
The music was incredible, all Tchaikovsky. A piano concerto with a nineteen year old soloist who's fingers moved with astounding speed...Sean's jaw was on the floor as he watched. Mac had drifted off to sleep, but not before making sure we'd wake him up when the dancers came out. That's because they also played selections from Swan Lake with two dancers leaping and spinning across the stage.
By intermission I mentioned to Sean about looking into season tickets and turns out he was thinking the same thing...oh classic rock boy is finally expanding his horizions. :)
Then came the finale...the 1812 Overture with cannons and fireworks. Words can't describe how I felt...I didn't really cry but somehow tears were streaming down my face. You literally felt the explosions of the cannon in your chest...mix that in with the symphony hitting a crescendo and the sky full of fireworks....it was breathtaking.
Best way I've spent a Saturday night in a long time...off to check out their website about season tickets...
